A Minimum of 98 Palestinian Individuals Have Died in Custody Since October 2023, Official Figures Shows
According to data released by Israel, no fewer than 98 Palestinians have died while in custody beginning in October 2023. A human rights group based in Israel has reported that the actual toll is almost certainly substantially greater, as a result of numerous of missing people originating in Gaza.

Non-Combatant Fatalities

By May of this year, a defense forces registry following all combatants in Gaza, a registry of over 47,000 named individuals, documented merely 21 deaths in confinement. By that point, 65 individuals from Palestine from Gaza had perished in detention.
Custodial Environment
Brutality, abuse, and other abuse of Palestinian individuals has become routine across Israel’s prison network throughout the duration of hostilities. Senior officials have publicly acknowledged minimal sustenance and an underground jail confining Palestinians who are kept in darkness.

Systemic Abuse

High-Profile Cases
Several casualties in custody have been widely reported, including a senior medical chief who lost his life in prison after four months in custody.
An inmate incarcerated with the deceased reported that he was led to the yard by prison staff just prior to his death, visibly injured and naked from the waist down. His remains has not been repatriated to Gaza.
Other prisoners who died in confinement by Israeli authorities are unidentified. Correctional authorities and defense forces provided analysts with the total of deaths in detention, and basic further data for example the site where they died, but without the inmates’ personal details.
Documentation Problems
